Art in Gillman Barracks

Updated: Apr 15, 2018

1. Why did you go there?

Yeshi: Singpore Art Book Fair 2017 was there that weekend.

2. Did you get anything from the fair?

Yeshi: I bought a food poster in sharp yellow color and a mini book in Cantonese for my friend. Oh! We also got free Gem Biscuits.

3. What else can you do there if there is no event?

Yeshi: Actually there are some studios and galleries to visit there. You can also buy paintings if you like, but we are just looking around haha.

Christine: That's right, there's a lot of art galleries and often free exhibitions, you can check what's currently on here. Aside from that, there's a Persian carpet shop and some cafes, it's a great place to walk around on a shady day.

4. Did you eat anything there?

Yeshi: They have food stalls for the event. It was a bit hot, and we ate coconut pudding.

5. Did you find any spots good for photography?

Yeshi: There is a secret tunnel in the opposite side of the road, connecting the bus station to a building.

Christine: Yeshi brought me to the famous Alexandra Technopark Tunnel that's been a hot spot for photographers.

6. Did you do anything after that?

Yeshi: Ya, of course. We were hungry. We took a bus to Pasir Panjang for foooood.

Christine: Food is always in order during our Tama-go Walks!

7. Isn't it far to go there from Gillman Barracks?

Yeshi: if you are super hungry, ya loh. Actually, just about 15mins.

8. What are the famous foods in Pasir Panjang Food Centre?

Yeshi: The Zi Char there is cheaper and yum, but we are not in the mood for Zi Char that day. Then we ordered 'healthier' Char Kway Teow and satay. It's my first time eating satay in SG!

9. Why is the char kway teow considered healthy?

Yeshi: See! We add a lot of veggies and it is said that they don't use lard.

10. Is it still nice?

Yeshi: umh, at least less sinful haha.

Christine: Definitely not as nice as the real version.
