Ula ula hei - Pulau Ubin

Updated: Apr 15, 2018

1. How did you know about Pulau Ubin?

Yeshi: I only knew about it after Christine asked me whether I wanted to go there. Pulau Ubin is a small island in southeast Singapore.

2. How can you get to the island?

Yeshi: You have to take a bumboat ride from Changi Point Ferry Terminal.

Christine: It costs SGD3 per way, so SGD6 in total.

3. What's special in Pulau Ubin?

Yeshi: Jungles, sea, cycling, and seafood. And monkeys!

Christine: One of the last few places to see the kampong lifestyle characteristic of old Singapore. It's the most rural that you can get in this cosmopolitan city-state.

4. What to bring?

Yeshi: Bring your hat, sunblock, and water. Don't bring food inside the jungle! Unless you want to attract monkeys.

Christine: Umbrellas can be useful too while walking and off lotion for mosquitoes. Powerbanks!

5. How was the cycling?

Yeshi: It was pretty nice. Most of the routes are shielded by the trees. And I enjoyed riding down the 'hill' without holding the breaks haha.

6. What's the most memorable part?

Yeshi: It's the moment that we found we were being approached by more than 15 monkeys!!! We parked our bicycles along the pathway and wanted to take a photo. When we looked back after we finish setting up our phones, the monkeys were just about 20 meters away from us, and still coming near. And then we had a dilemma whether to run or stand still.

Christine: I'd have to agree with Yeshi! That moment was damn hilarious and scary. Needless to say we didn't get a photo in that spot.

7.What's your recommend photography point?

Yeshi: The mangrove path above the water is nice, but there is no shade.

8.Why only you wore long pants?

Yeshi: Just don't want to be darker.

9.Did you have lunch there?

Yeshi: Yes. Actually, one of the reasons that we were there is for the food.

10. Any recommended dishes?

Yeshi: This steamed fish with soya sauce at Season Live Seafood is super nice! The fish is big and fresh. Don't forget to order rice and enjoy it with the soya sauce!
