Vietnamese Town in Joo Chiat Road

Updated: Apr 15, 2018

1. What's so special about Joo Chiat?

Christine: It's like a little Vietnam area in Singapore (not to be confused with the Little Vietnam restaurant in Paya Lebar). The street is lined with Vietnamese restaurants and groceries.

2. What was the occasion?

Christine: We were celebrating Mabel's birthday and Yeshi successfully passing her cQE (it's a #phd thing)

Yeshi: Oh yeah! I passed my cQE!

3. Where did you eat?

Christine: At Long Phung, it's a Vietnamese Restaurant recommended by Mabel, and boy did we enjoy the food! It's a great place to eat authentic Vietnamese homecooked meals!

4. Why is their cake so small?

Christine: Mabel wanted her birthday low-key so we picked an inconspicuous-looking cake hehe.

Yeshi: Less calories this way!

5. What did you guys love the best?

Christine: The sea shells that Mabel was raving about on the way there. I particularly loved the sauce it came with (sour, peppery, oily and salty all at the same time). Can't remember what it's called but this is what it looks like.

Yeshi: Agree with Christine! The sauce is unique and yum. Btw, the dry noodle with pork chop I ate is also worth a try.

6. Any recommended drink?

Christine: I personally loved their tamarind-peanut drink. The entire concept was new to me. Though the most usual thing to love there would be their coffee or iced coffee.

7. What was the best part of that day?

Christine: The food. And Chiwei's jokes that he didn't mean as jokes but we ended up repeatedly laughing at anyway. Oh, and also the long bus ride going home! Pardon me for abusing the word "best".

8. What was the worst part?

Christine: The long MRT ride going there. I was hungry since we left NUS.

9. How did you end the night?

Christine: We checked out some Vietnamese groceries.

10. Did you buy anything?

Christine: dried jackfruit - it was good but some pieces were rock hard I ended up throwing away half of it.
