Paya Lebar's Little Vietnam

Updated: May 26, 2018

1. Is Paya Lebar far?

Christine: From NUS, it's about an hour. From the West, it's just point blank far (relative to usual distances within Singapore).

2. When did you go there?

Christine: We went there on the Deepavali holiday. Mabel, Yeshi and I went to work a bit in the lab in the morning and made our way by bus to Paya Lebar for dinner.

3. There's a Little Vietnam area there?

Christine: Little Vietnam is the name of the restaurant we went to. It's not an area synonymous to Little India. Mabel recommended it to be better than Long Phung so we wanted to try it.

4. Where are the photos of the food at Little Vietnam?

Christine: Unfortunately when we got there, it was too dark already to take photos. We got seats outside since the seats inside filled up fast - and so we couldn't take decent photos of the food.

5. Was the food great?

Christine: It was great as I remembered it! We shared some Vietnamese noodles along with rice and a Vietnamese fish dish. It's been approximately 8 months since we went there as I'm writing this post, so I honestly cannot remember what dishes exactly we ate without the help of photos. >.< poor memory.

Yeshi: Me too! I just remember we sat somewhere in the corridor and it was dark. And Mabel was considering to 'DaBao' (take away) some duck rice from this store.

6. What else did you do there?

Christine: We tried getting bokeh shots, but Yeshi couldn't do it with her camera because we didn't have a tripod.

Yeshi: By the time we reached, it was actually the "magical moment" of the day. The sky was totally pink and orange that day. Super nice!

7. Did you eat dessert?

Christine: Yes, we went to Paya Lebar Square to try Ah Mah Homemade Cakes.

8. What's that?

Christine: Ah Mah makes the famous castella cakes which if I try to describe are wobbly, mildly buttery, sponge cakes with fillings inside.

Yeshi: It was similar to the cake I ate in Tainan (Taiwan), but still a bit different.

9. What filling did you get?

Christine: We got a regular one and a cheese one, they were okay I guess. It was good while it was hot, but I wouldn't be craving it if it were already cold.

10. Do you have a photo of the castella cake?

Christine: We don't have a photo, but here's a video! Watch til the end because that's roughly when the cake appears!
