Colorful Heritages in Katong

Updated: Apr 15, 2018

Empty your stomach before arriving Katong!

1. Did you travel all the way to Katong just for food?

Yeshi: Well, if you want, of course you can! Especially for that Banana Pie. For us, nahhh, we spend more time on cells than travelling for food. We came here for volunteer work early in the morning and ate breakfast in Katong street.

2. What kind of volunteer work was that?

Yeshi: We helped in the soup kitchen and prepared food for free distribution.

Christine: with Willing Hearts, they're always in need of more volunteers!

3. What's the most memorable moment in the kitchen?

Yeshi: I found out that frying 20 eggs together is not an easy job!

Christine: taking apart tons (alright, maybe just kilograms) of frozen fish skin

4. What did you eat for breakfast after that?

Yeshi: Katong Laksa definitely. And banana pie for dessert! Highly recommended!!!

5. How did you find this hidden bakery?

Yeshi: True, it is almost impossible for you to find this bakery if you don't know it. Luckily, Christine know it haha!

Christine: It's the Dona Manis Cake Shop inside Katong Shopping Centre. Something I discovered from a guy I used to go out with.

7. What else can you do in Katong?

Yeshi: The buildings here are colorful and special. There are many Peranakan shophouses here along the street. It is great for photography and culture exploration.

8. Any recommended store?

Yeshi: I heard that this coffee shop, Chin Mee Chin, is quite nice. They sell typical Singapore breakfast set: kaya toast, soft boiled eggs, and kopi.

9. What's the most colorful thing you found there?

Yeshi: Kueh!

10. It seems that the weather was quite nice that day.

Yeshi: Yes, but it was super hot actually.
