Kranji: an escape from the city

Updated: May 27, 2018

1. How did you find out about Kranji?

Christine: Through Google, like most other things. haha. It was during my 1st year, I wanted to go the most unconventional places in Singapore.

2. Why is Kranji your favorite place?

Christine: Because it looks so different from the rest of Singapore. It's near the Sungei Buloh Reservoir, and includes a lot of agricultural places which makes the whole area mostly green. There's a frog farm, a goat farm, koi farms, cacti plantations and other vegetable plantations. There's also staycation resorts to escape the buzz of the city. Most Singaporeans haven't even been here because it's considered as ulu (far).

3. How do you go to Kranji?

Christine: You can use your car, or like us take the Kranji Countryside Express. It's a shuttle bus that stops at certain spots in Kranji. Check here for the schedule, because you'll have to take a Grab if you miss it. The frequency is usually every 30 minutes or an hour.

Yeshi: You should plan your schedule between each spot to avoid missing the shuttle.

4. Did you visit every stop at Kranji?

Christine: This was my fourth time in Kranji so I've been to all the stops already. But during this visit with Yeshi, we just went to Kranji Marshes, Bollywood Veggies, then the Hay Dairies Goat Farm.

5. What's there to see at the Kranji Marshes?

Christine: Like the name says, it's a marshland. But you walk on a pavement path and at the end there's a lookout point you can climb to see the extent of the marshes. The path is not covered so expect it to be hot.

Yeshi: It's a place for bird watching as well.

6. Bollywood Veggies sounds interesting, what do you see there?

Christine: It's a farm restaurant with a really cool concept! They have an extensive garden inside which you can also explore. Their restroom design is one of my favorite toilet concepts haha! I love the food here, we ordered their Warrior Platter and our favorite banana cake! One of the best I've tasted!

Yeshi: Agree! The banana cake was so nice! Especially because they served it hot with cold vanilla ice cream.

7. Where did you go after Bollywood Veggies?

Christine: To Hay Dairies Goat Farm.

8. What was the most memorable thing about the farm?

Christine: The smell. In fact Yeshi and I bought chocolate-flavored goat's milk and took it home but never drank it because of the memory of the smell. I have no idea how people drink milk in the farm itself.

Yeshi: True, every time I saw the bottle, it just reminded me of the smell.

9. Did you find anything else at the goat farm?

Christine: I bought this enzyme juice from Taiwan which supposedly helps your body's digestion. A placebo I believe, but again I was scammed.

10. How was that entire day?

Christine: It was quite tiring, but fun!
